Atelier Construction

In 2019 I was in school at NCSU.

We had a big New Years Eve celebration at the plant and a new tenant, Oak City Hemp opened up that night.

Popping up at the plant before the Atelier

I was working a pop up booth right outside of their new shop and noticed the power of a bricks and mortar storefront.

I decided that we needed a place of our own at the plant and began dreaming of a Hempsmith headquarters.

On a road trip with my dad we were daydreaming and we came up with the idea of a music studio above the retail storefront.

Hand building the Atelier

He was in the midst of moving his distillery across the street and a plan came together. We took an old warehouse next to the tasting room and carved out a section for Hempsmith.

Space was limited so we designed a tiny shop that would fit right into his operation. Over the coming months, we pieced together the Atelier.

We used rough cut cedar from a local sawmill and reclaimed materials from the old biodiesel plant. I bought a sink off of the distillery and our dye house was born.

Our flagship store in Pittsboro, NC.

The two bay sink was a big upgrade from our hose and buckets in the old dye house.

It was a dream come true. I began cranking out shirts at the plant and giving music lessons in the studio upstairs.

The Atelier serves as our flagship storefront as well as our tie dye and print shop.
