About Us
Hempsmith is a hemp clothing company based in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
Our mission is simple: Bring hemp back into everyday life.
We believe clothing should be durable, sustainable, and made with intention. That’s why we work with hemp — one of the strongest and most environmentally responsible fibers on the planet.
At our workshop in Pittsboro, we transform hemp garments through hand dyeing, screen printing, and embroidery. Each piece is crafted in small batches, giving every garment its own character.
This is slow fashion — built to last and designed to age beautifully.
Crafted by hand
At Hempsmith, the process matters.
Every shirt is tied by hand before dyeing. Each design is screen printed one layer at a time. Our dyes are mixed in small batches, and our shop sink doubles as our dye house.
It’s an old-school process that values craftsmanship over mass production.
The result is clothing that feels personal, durable, and one-of-a-kind.
What is hemp though?
Hemp is one of the oldest textile fibers in human history — and one of the most sustainable.
It grows quickly, requires minimal water, and produces strong, long-lasting fibers.
Hemp fabric becomes softer with every wash while maintaining incredible durability. Instead of wearing out quickly like synthetic fabrics, hemp clothing is made to last for years.
For us, hemp isn’t just a material — it’s part of a movement toward better clothing and a healthier planet.

Bringing hemp home
Our long-term vision is to help rebuild a local hemp textile economy in North Carolina.
For generations, hemp was used to make ropes, canvas, and durable fabrics. In fact, the word “canvas” comes from “cannabis,” because canvas was historically made from hemp.
We believe the future of sustainable clothing includes bringing this fiber back into American agriculture and manufacturing.
Hempsmith is one small step in that direction.
Our Founder
My big brother, Zafer Estill started Hempsmith in 2015. He came up with the original leaf tee design and sold a few shirts to the homies.
He had a vision of an environmental renaissance and saw a future where hemp was widely used.
He went off to Boulder, CO when I was 17 to study business. Zafer died from a heroin overdose in April of 2016 and left my family in shock. Overnight I had lost my brother and best friend.
Within that first week I remember thinking that I could take Hempsmith and continue the vision. Working with my brother every day.
